Rocky for Equality was founded in July 2011 for the purpose of bringing our community together to discuss and help to facilitate social change… BY ENJOYING THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW LIVE! The creators of RFE want to support local businesses, artists and charities creatively while also giving back to the community via a community theater production. Our goal is to produce an annual showing of The Rocky Horror Show Live, making it a tradition that our fans look forward to year after year.
Our first production took place October 2011 in Brewer, ME. For this performance we decided to focus on the Maine Same-Sex Marriage & LGBT Equality movement, due to its political struggle in Maine and the nature of the show itself. We teamed up with EqualityME and were incredibly successful!
In 2014, RFE moved to Augusta and joined forces with the Augusta Colonial Theatre restoration project. We staged our show at Le Club Calumet in Augusta, teaming up with local groups such as Darling's Ice Cream For A Cause and the Augusta Downtown Alliance to help raise money for the theater. With performances in 2015, 2016, and 2018, RFE continued to perform at Le Club Calumet and raised over $7500 for the Colonial Theatre!
In 2020, RFE moved to the Lewiston-Auburn area to work with Community Little Theatre at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center.
Rocky For Equality believes in community. We strive to support local artists, businesses, groups and charities by getting them involved, bringing them together, and sharing the wonder that is Rocky Horror with the citizens of Maine. We welcome all levels of talent and experience, and we encourage you to contact us if you would like to be involved.
This group never would have started without the support of such a passionate staff, cast and crew, and of course, such a responsive community. We are indeed grateful and loyalty such as yours must be rewarded – so THANKS!
